This is a 4 page resource that explores the history of the oil industry and the use of fossil fuels and why using solar power might be a cleaner alternative and help solve the energy crisis.
*Classroom Packet option included to save paper
Included in the resource you will find the following key terms/topics:
❀ Brief History of the oil industry and the use of fossil fuelsThis resource ties in well with the structure of atoms and also with carbon emissions. As solar energy is an up and coming thing, it is important for students to understand how it works and why it works.
Here is a snippet from Sub Plan N:
"Once electrons are freed from their bonds as sunlight is absorbed, they contribute to the negativity of the n-type semiconductor and are attracted to the p-type, and they flow toward it. The cycle is continuous. As more sunlight is absorbed, the electrons continue to flow until a diode is formed. A diode is a semiconductor with two terminals, a positive end and a negative end, which typically allows electrical current to flow in one direction to create an electrical current."
This sub plan is a useful tool to help encourage scientific literacy in reading, graphing, and making connections to the scientific world.
Feel good knowing that your students will be well taken care of on those days that you are out- don't scramble for another sub plan! You can use this year after year!
