Reading covers how fossil fuels are formed, what types of fossil fuels we use (oil, natural gas, coal, gasoline, etc.) and how we extract these resources (can be 6 pages if you choose to use chart analysis that covers carbon dioxide in the atmosphere over time).

The sub plan also explains greenhouse gases and the repercussions that centuries of fossil fuel use have had on our atmosphere. Students will leave your classroom having learned all about fossil fuels and will be up for a fun discussion on the day you return from your absence! Though, many teachers have told me they love these lessons so much they use them for assignments without a substitute!

This sub plan is a useful tool to help encourage scientific literacy in reading, graphing, and making connections to the scientific world.

Feel good knowing that your students will be well taken care of on those days that you are out- don't scramble for another sub plan! You can use this year after year!
