This reading exercise covers nutrition labels: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, as well as why we have nutrition labels, how to read them, and what the numbers mean. By the time your class is done with this they will know exactly what is in their food, what makes a calorie, and how to read a nutrition label.
Nutrition labels are broken down with a quick exploration of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats- including their structure, function, and how the body uses them. This is great for biochemistry!
There is some simple math involved (addition and multiplication), but an easy step-by-step process is included along with an example or two so that you can rest assured this can easily be completed with a sub in the classroom.
This sub plan is a useful tool to help encourage scientific literacy in reading, graphing, and making connections to the scientific world.
*Student packet option included to save paper.
Feel good knowing that your students will be well taken care of on those days that you are out- don't scramble for another sub plan! You can use this year after year!
Recommended for grades 7/8+
Answer key included (as always)
