Genetics Inquiry Based Learning to satisfy modern science frameworks the ATLAS (Analyzing and Thinking Like a Scientist) genetics journal is designed to emphasize real world science without route memorization, making it easy to incorporate and address inquiry based learning.

The genetics inquiry based science journal is an easy way for students to get engaged in content without teacher lead instruction using models!
How to use GENETICS ATLAS: Read the teacher guide so that you know what is expected of the students, as well as any materials you may need. Then move on to the ATLAS journal where students work in groups. Once the ATLAS journal is complete, move on to teacher-lead instruction (this material is not included).
GENETICS ATLAS:
Students inquire about the "Big Idea": Traits are passed from parents, through egg and sperm, to offspring; and then move on to making chromosomes. There are NO wrong answers in the ATLAS Journals!
MAPS are the Exploratory portion of ATLAS. Included are the following:
1. Making Chromosomes Model: Students make models of their chromosomes and then use the chromosomes to create egg or sperm.
2. Analyze and Predict: Students review Mendel's results and try to come up their own conclusions.
3. Explore It- Model: Students use online simulations to model heredity and learn more about genotype, phenotype, and alleles.
4. Modeling Heredity: Students complete the heredity model to create genetic "babies".
